| VERBAL AND VISUAL PIECES (Part 1 of 2) | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The participants in these pieces, done in 1976, were classmates at the School of Visual Arts in New York City (Verbal Piece #1 and Verbal Piece #2) and co-workers at a New Jersey retailer's in-house advertising department (Verbal Piece #3 and Visual Piece #1). I had intended to do a series of visual pieces where the results of "surveys" on color, line, shape, etc., were to be used as a basis for the art. The resulting works, taken from "surveys" in different cities and countries, among categories of people, etc., were to be published and/or exhibited in their respective groupings. The following paragraph was to have accompanied the publication and/or exhibit: Every human act is an eternal act in that its influence will be felt forever. To lessen the importance of such influence on an artist's creation is to lessen the importance of art. -Carmine Scarpa |
