Raised in the American Northeast, Stephanie A. Custance is currently based out of Berlin, Germany. Holding a Bachelor of Fine Art in both Studio Art and Art History, her painted works speak of contemporary life through their reference to the 20th century's artistic deposits. Her works explore the self-portrait as an anchor within the maelstrom of daily life. Standing on this foothold, portraiture of the surrounding populous is employed as the vocabulary to discuss societal relationships. Formally, simultaneity is exposed through
layering and erasure as details are obscured and secondary images reveal themselves.
